I love the Kukui trees, I spent days looking at and photographing the trees. One day I went under the tree and realized I needed to paint it looking to the sky from under it. This idea excited me. Kukui means light in Hawaiian, due to the "candlenut " it produces, their nuts are oily and provide light when needed. "Kukui" is painted on Crepe de Chine Silk in the Japanese wax resist technique, Rozome. It is mounted on a scroll which I made of upholstery fabric. It is 18" x 47" hanging on a bamboo scroll hanger.
